what is eBUNQA.com

Each of us are brought into this world, into the culture of our parents, where they reside, their lifestyles, their values. In the beginning, we don't have too much choice in these matters. But eventually and with time, we find ourselves in a larger global community that continually transforms our way of thinking, our way of living. We may not always know it, but each of our horizons shift and expand - to other ways of seeing, beyond our own culture, and often...back again to the roots of where we began. Ultimately and increasingly in this 21st century, each of us are in fact shaping our own personal culture. eBUNQA.com attempts to bring together these diverse insights, experiences and outlook on this emerging virtual multi-cultural community.

We invented the term eBUNQA to refer to three aspects of discussing our contemporary culture:

異文化 (ibunka)─a different culture: the modern phenomena of juxtaposed multiple, diverse and foreign cultures which result in a variety of hybrid, new, and unprecedented people/place/purpose relationships.

良い文化 (ii bunka)─a good culture: the timeless qualities found in our culture which endure and continue over generations - everyday things which we all love and wish to maintain, learn from, and find new ways of keeping them in our lives, new insights which enrich the qualities of our environment and promote better understanding among people.

e-文化 (e-bunka)─electronic culture: internet-based borderless global culture defined by a virtual community of interactive connections among people near and far - beyond one's own geographical and culturally bound base.

The key to the future for an "island country" such as Japan is the opening up of its insular limits to the global context without necessarily forsaking its long-standing cultural heritage. eBUNQA.com is a place for nourishing such a potential among people, who like a boomerang, can soar into the sky and and gracefully make its return - to promote a community of boomerangers!

The boomerangers of the eBUNQA.com are kikoku shijo, foreign students, professionals, expatriates in Japan and those currently living abroad or have returned, those who go back and forth, those bicultural and multi-ethnic, and those footloose globe-trotters among us, and of course, for all those who have yet to step outside.

The idea of introducing eBUNQA to the internet originated from three individuals, two who are kikoku shijo, one of whom presently lives in the U.S.
